The Virunga National Park Project

Virunga National Park is protected land that contains large areas of rainforest with populations of endangered mountain gorillas and eastern chimpanzees. Unfortunately this area has been under armed conflict between park rangers and rebel groups backed by an illegal charcoal cartel. The most recent violent act on April 24th, 2020 ended in the death of 12 park rangers, a driver, and 4 civilians. This tragic event was not the first and will likely not be the last. It leaves the land, as well as wildlife at risk, as well as leaves the families of the rangers with no financial support.
